SUMMARY: zfs question

I asked:

The answer:
Well, superficially they are the same.  But if you make a zfs filesystem
instead of a mkdir you get all of the additional features of a zfs filesystem.
You can generate snapshots, it can be mounted anywhere, you can impose quotas,
etc etc etc.
