More information: Tru64 5.1B patch kit 5 installation

It looks like the documentation says that you have to use multiuser-mode
if choosing no-roll. 

PatchInstallGuide, Chapter 5.1:
"In addition, the no-roll patch procedure employs the use of the Tru64
UNIX Event
Management System (EVM) to send cluster-wide events. As a result,
patches
must be applied to the system in multiuser mode. If you attempt to use
the no-roll
procedure while in single-user mode, you will be advised to change the
cluster
to multiuser mode before continuing."

OK, then I am all set. But... I don't trust (possibly) aging
documentation (yes, it is from the patch kit itself, but...)

Any experiences? (thanks to all that have replied so far).

Question: installing patch kit 5 in multiuser-mode/no-roll with the
following performed:

1. only I can login and sudo my way to root (I would also use "screen"
to protect against disconnect)

2. all applications (i.e. oracle) is down, but normal system daemons are
running and network is up.

Is this a very bad idea (i.e. multiuser mode vs. single user method)?

If I can do it in multiuser mode, (i.e. without having to stand at the
dumb terminal), I can work more efficiently on the 8 boxes that I need
to upgrade (some are cluster members).
