Caching of passwd entries

On one of our clusters (a two node ES45 cluster) there was a local / etc/passwd entry masking a NIS passwd map entry with the same name. I deleted the local entry, but the system still seems to be 'remembering' the now-departed entry. Is there some sort of local caching going? And if so, how can I flush the cache and tell Tru64 (5.1B) to return the NIS entry, which is now the only one?
