Original Question: Our current configuration is a GS160, Tru64 5.1B connected over a Compaq SAN Switch 16 to a Compaq/HP SAN (EMA12000) with 4 Compaq StorageWorks dual RAID Array HSG80 controllers. We are planning to connect an IBM SAN DS4800 with the IBM SAN Volume Controller (SVC) to the Compaq SAN Switch 16. After the IBM DS4800 SAN is connected is a re-boot of the GS160 required/needed (production system) or should a "hwmgr -scan scsi" find/see the volume on the IBM DS4800 SAN? Thanks to Dr. Thomas P. Blinn, Jeffrey Hummel, Kevin Binda, Maria Gilliland, and Bluejay Adametz for their replies. All replies agreed that a reboot is not required and a "hwmgr -scan scsi should be sufficient to find the new fibre channel components. If it actually would work I can't say because the hardware vendor decided/recommended not to connect the SAN switches together and not to merge the new switch into the current fabric. A more conservative approach was chosen (moving data over a network connection). Mathias Schmassmann
