Contract UNIX Admin Position in Gaithersburg, MD for NIST

Belcan TechServices is currently recruiting for a Gaithersburg, MD client who has an immediate need for a qualified UNIX Administrator.

Responsibilities:

•Responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and tuning of application servers and web servers. Run necessary system backups. 
•Provide technical support on application server-related and web applications issues. 
•Responding to trouble-tickets via an internal application and/or phone reports. 
•Applying new knowledge (through training, mentoring, documented
processes) to handle more difficult tasks. 
•Plan and document systems, respond to all inquiries of systems to which he/she is responsible. 

Qualifications: 

•Must have experience with TRU64 Unix
•Must Have experience with Solaris Unix
•Well-versed with of most UNIX commands/utilities. 
•Fundamental understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; for example, understands job control, soft and hard links, distinctions between the kernel and the shell
•Experience with Patch Management 

Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts; for example, can use the route command, add a workstation to a network, and mount remote file systems. 

Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, bash, sh, etc.) 

Programming experience in any applicable language. 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of conveying ideas and applying knowledge to challenging tasks. Open to new ideas and technologies, and wants to learn. Writing basic documentation. Works well in a team.
