Tom,
As you can imagine, I don't know much about growing in Florida. But I
would suggest that you put your Dasylirion in the same mix you describe
for your agaves. Most love fast drainage and resent cold, wet feet.
Otherwise, they are pretty easy to grow and in your area, I would
imagine would appreciate as much sun as you can give  them. Best of
