zone 5 has a minimum of -20F, but it hasn't been there
for years. We usually get down to -12F for a few days.

yucca filamentosa is hardy here. Many yards have as
their only plant, a clump of y. filamentosa growing
right in the lawn. People grow them because you can
ignore them. I try not to be a plant snob, but I only
have a variegated y. filamentosa in my cactus bed,
along with two little grasslike yuccas, that I can't
remember right now. I have planted seed from yucca
nana and another that might be hardy and grows a
trunk, I also can't remember that one, and I've had my
coffee! So far no germination but it's been only
fifteen days. I'm especially excited about the y.
nana. Such a beautiful little thing, and hardy.

Spring comes late this year. I've gotten trees and
bushes for my new yard but can't plant them because
for at least a week, it will be 20F every night. I
suppose that will ruin my narcissus.

Why are you interested in green phormiums? There is a
danger that people will mistake them for a yucca :O)
