Dear Maarten, I had posted a review of the book in the Agavaceae group files back in Fri Feb 15, 2002. The treatment of "succulent" monocots is inconsistent and incomplete. I also have a more detailed review of the treatment of Yucca in the book there also. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AGAVACEAE/files/ The two volumes on the Aizoaceae are already out and I have a review of them in the MESEMBS group files. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MESEMBS/files/ Cereusly Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: Maarten van Thiel To: AgaveForum ; Agavaceae group ; English group ; Fat Plants Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2002 3:34 AM Subject: [AGAVACEAE] Eggli Hi! Just found out I forgot to tell about a new book I read about, "Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants: Monocotyledons" by Urs Eggli (red.). Springer, Berlin, 2001. About 370 pages, 32 pages pics. 189,- DM. (about 95 E/85 USD). First of 6 volumes. No cacti. Said to be the "new Jacobsen". Next volumes: dicotyls, Ascleps, Crassulas and 2 x Aizoaceae (thats what it says; dont know how to iterpret that as 5 volumes; one about dicotyls?). This volume: Agave, Aloe, Astroloba, Beaucarnea, Bulbine, Dracaena, Gasteria, Haemanthus, Haworthia, Nolina, Sansevieria and Yucca. And some less known genera. "Succulents": no Halophyts, nor succulent or xerophyt looking Bromelias or Orchids. Contains taxonomic cross reference index. Nothing about culture.
