Dear Breck, Here is a picture of Agave 'Edward Hummel' that I keep reading about. http://www.rth.org/occss/1998show/agave%20'edward%20hummel'_Thumb.jpg Could it be the same as Agave attenuata 'Red Margin', said to be a garden hybrid between A.attenuata and A.shawii? Does anyone have any more information on either hybrid and where the names were first published? http://www.cacti.com/assets/images/agatrm1.JPEG http://spazioweb.inwind.it/piantegrasse/schede_succulente/agave_attenuata%20red%20margin.htm Could Agave toumeyana var. "oenna" be a misspelling of Agave toumeyana var. bella, a small growing diploid variety of the species native to central Arizona? It is now named Agave toumeyana ssp. bella. http://www.dbg.org/Involved/agave_toumeyana.html http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Agavaceae/Agave_bella.html Gentry (1982) places Agave ocahui and A. pelona in different sections. The two are very different in flower. A.ocahui has the flowers on a very short thickened pedicel while A.pelona has flowers on an elongate slender pedicel. http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Agavaceae/Agave_ocahui.html http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Agavaceae/Agave_longifolia.html http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Agavaceae/Agave_pelona.html Cereusly Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: catevala To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2002 9:27 PM Subject: [AGAVACEAE] Agaves seen in cultivation in Tucson I went out to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson last Friday with my two young sons. They've really improved their signage out there on plants since I was last there several months ago. Lots of people that day! from 4 Canadian Provinces and at least 25 states judging by the license plates! Anyway, whilst there I noticed some interesting agaves. One was a species called Agave toumeyana var. oenna (sp.?). A real miniature. Anyone know some basic info on this taxon? Also seen in container near the restaurant was a handsome hybrid labeled Agave x 'Edward Hummel'. Anyone know of this one and the parents? Also I am a bit confused about two agaves which seem to me to be very similar looking. I refer to Agave ocahui and A. pelona. Maybe I have just seen alot of mislabeled plants of one or the other. Nonetheless ocahui seems to be a small version of pelona. Any sense to this perception? Thanks, Breck [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
