Florida/Carib agave

Well I've finally gotten my curiosity aroused.
  I can not imagine what this Florida/Carribean agave is.
When I was down in the southern Florida area (includ. the Everglades) I saw 
not one agave.  Wonder where these guys live?  I can imagine some agaves in 
the Carribean somewhere, but didn't see any in Jamaica and I went all over 
that island (in search of tillandsias).
