They have a good selection of books and DVDs, and sell in store front and through mail order. I've found them to be extremely helpful in answering questions and their willingness to head me in the right direction.

I tried growing hydroponically several years ago and am not sure if the results were that much different from growing in a great potting mix. Although it was fun watching plants like Dioscoreas  grow in a water/nutrient solution, I never felt the results were worth the expense and effort.  

That said, enjoy your quest, and I'm sure your results will be different than mine.

Have a couple of questions about bamboo. I have lots of Bambusa oldhamii growing in the ground and have been putting some separated culms in containers. Getting great results to block block out the 27 houses that are being build across the street. The neighborhood has gone down hill since the road was paved. Here are my questions: Can I still pot up the bamboo this time of year without killing them? I don't care about not getting  growth until spring or summer. In addition, can I keep watering those I have potted to encourage new growth? Or, will I take a chance of killing the entire plant? I'm not concerned about minor leaf loss. Normal winters will see about a half dozen freezes to about 28 F at the lowest, and the duration might be an hour or so. Winter day-time temps are generally in the sixties or seventies, however, we can get down to the fifties. I'm keeping the offsets in containers as I'm trying to negotiate a sale of my property that will have
 a one year escrow. If this happens, I plan on taking the  bamboo with me, or give away what I can't use.

Suggestions?

John as ALWAYS I thank you for this kind of thing.

I am in deep mourning over the death of Lou Reed, whom I knew but avoided
because you know he stuck needles into his arms and drank so much for
years I thought he was IRISH and did not know he was a fellow Yid from
Brooklyn. an INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE VOICE and such a beautiful young
man.
I must get back to weeping again.

But Sir John, you are so very much appreciated, and I wonder if you want
to share with me anything you know about hydroponics since Roger has
become ENTRANCED by this and I can only find books on amazon about DOPE
GROWING  and my old hydroponics books are technically out of
date.
