Well - I just toss them in a tub, so don't really know how deep the taproots can go - but the two that I did dig up earlier this spring were about 1 foot long - but if grown shallower, they will just grow horizontally (like in a tub) 
No idea if bottom heat will help these particular palms or not.

I pretty much do. I have to get a place ready for them and need to knowhow long the taproots are because this makes a warm bottom heated place Igotta consider since it is going to get JUST THIS SIDE OF TOO COLD VERYSOON. I love this palm by the way.
