You asked about care of my plants. My way might not be the best way for your climate and growing conditions there in southern California. I use a commercial grade nursery mix comprised of peat and about 30% perlite.  But I understand California growers greatly eschew peat and substitute a decomposed granite in place of perlite. If you want to take advantage of what experienced growers in your area recommend as a growing medium, I suggest you join a succulent club in your area and ask. I use a slow release fertilizer called Osmocote 14-14-14 applied in the early spring, and once again in August. I think good water is important, so I catch rainwater in a barrel and use a watering can. I water liberally in the summer, and I try to avoid direct sun on the leaves. I do not have a greenhouse; my plants, in plastic pots, sit on home-made benches.

I think what you need to reconsider your feelings about variegated sansevierias, is to see some that show off their fine attributes. So, I have attached here below several pictures to help you change your mind. Ha!

The first thought was OMG! Then WOW for a half-hour.  Absolutely gorgeous! Like a dream come true - at least for me. What do you feed that lovely creature - Purina Tiger mix?  ; )

In time, my feelings for variegated species may change - life has its surprises.

 Hi Leon. I send greetings from The Great Volunteer State! Your wish to see your masoniana morph into a "man-eating monster" provides me with opportunity to brag a little with the attached picture of me peeking between the leaves of my 15+ year old masoniana. It makes a nice accent piece in the living room in the winter; and in the summer it enjoys front porch living where a pair of wrens regularly raise a family. You might have to click on a thumbnail picture at the bottom of this message to see the full picture.
I hope you change your mind about the variegated forms. Beauty begins with the variegated types :-)

My name is Leon and have morphed into a rabid Sans lover, since I got my first S. cylindrica in the 1990's.

I will keep a couple of trifasciata about, but I really enjoy some of the more uncommon, hardy species.Hoping to see my masonia become a man-eating monster.  : )

Naturally I was very excited ( & blessed) to receive a deserti cutting last year.

Not a big fan of variegated varieties.I admire enthusiasts who maintain large Sans collections.

My fantasy is to get a large greenhouse and have a dedicated section for an expanded collection to share with other Sans aficionados.
