I am sure that the desertii will get taller - but you would be able to tell if you had one, from my photo.
Height is never a good way to ID sans, because many have juvenile, and adult forms. It is the leaf shape, and structure that you need.
I am including my ballyi photo - and they are not similar, as you will see.
The S. roxburghiana is medium height, kind of dark, stout, semi-tubular leaves with a SHALLOW V channel and is lightly marked in darker tones.
if that's as tall as the desert gets then no I never had one…unless the S. balyii i have is actually S. desert. The S. roxburghiana I cannot tell from the photos..
