Do you think you might be able to scare up a rooted leaf or pup of you TRUE variegated masoniana? I would be happy to pay next month's mortgage, ha ha! Seriously though, I'd be happy to trade, or buy it. 
Good point about pots being "unnatural" - but thank god for them! 
I'm with you, about the dirt - That is what I do - I just keep re-using, and mixing in dirt from dead plants, new plants, and always have organic stuff in the form of seeds, leaves, dead roots, etc - I remove MOST - but little bits and pieces are continually being recycled. My plants on average, are re-potted about 40 times a year, since I sell plants for a living, I'm continually changing pots, and therefore, the dirt, too. It works for everything from A-to-Z, even orchids. and cacti/succulents, of all kinds. And obviously, it's free. That's a big one right there.
