[Sansevierias] S. 'Black Jack' and Superba [4 Attachments]

Thanks for the link to the patent for Black Jack, Hermine. Very interesting. I'm also shocked about getting a patent for Black Jack.

However, he might not have been able to get a patent  for 'Black Jack' if 'Superba' had been patented. This coloration for Black Jack and 'Superba' has been around for a while now in local Lowes and Home Depot stores in my area. They are both a Futura class of sansevieria and I think 'Superba' sometimes goes by the name 'Black Gold' which fits it very well.

I think I live in the armpit of Home Depots and Lowes - although I was one of the first to show up here with Sansevieria 'Skyline' several years ago. 'Skyline' was merely a S. cylindrica grown in the magic of Costa Rica's magnificent climate, and perhaps with some secret growing methods. Interestingly, 'Skyline' pups never look like their parents and one never sees 'Skyline' anymore.

my plant which does show signs of unkind handling is over two feet talland has leaves which are five inches wide at the base. It does not havethe appearance of being full grown at all.

No way is it a 'Compacta' type.

MANY years ago I was selling 'Hoya 'Krinkle 8' and found out by accidentthat it had a patent, ----(I had a major guilt attack!) so I hunted downthe nursery of origin in Florida and wrote to them and said, I AM SOSORRY but I have sold about ten 'Krinkle 8' this year, and I did not knowit had a patent, how much money shall I send you? and they called me andLAUGHED and said, essentially that they care only about peoplecommercially producing this and reselling it  in large amountswholesale, and they are well aware that folks give each other cuttingsand have tiny nurseries, and that I should go in peace.

Somebody here patented a cultivar of some variegated dwarf bamboo whichalready has a cultivar name and looks exactly  like what theypatented. you could see Roger SNEERING at this. I just mentioned this tohim and he said PULEEZE do not even TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS INSANECRAP.

however it is good that folks are noticing aberrations in their plants. Iam all for that.

Today I went out to browsethrough some local nurseries.  I saw some tempting sans. They hadall the color variations of Lillian True, plus some very wide and robustlooking leaves.  The tag said "Black Jack", also describedas med to tall.  I didn't bring one home though.  They were notin the best shape, having some of those blistered areas that wereweeping. Yuk!

I looked on the net for Black Jack and found several pictures.  Thisplant really does have some beautiful markings.
