Re: [Sansevierias] S. bonceilensis

1. The name of this cultivar should actually read 'Boncel' and not "bonceilensis" since it is just a cultivar and hence its name should not be latinized (according to the rules).
2. The cultivar's identity has been a matter of discussion on many occasions, but still remains a mystery that could only be solved by genetic studies. This cultivar (or the seeds it germinated from?) was found in Indonesia in a large field planted with S. cylindrica patula and other sansevieria speciosa (including some trifasciata varietes) grown for commercial purposes (chiefly for export). Hence the primary guess was that it is a hybrid. Notably, Alan lists it as such (Sa 237 - Sansevieria 'Boncel' - Compact growing hybrid of S. cylindrica v. patula). However, there were no small-sized speciosa/varieties among those plantings and this cultivar is invariably small growing. My personal belief is that it is a real mutation of S. cylindrica patula, which is a good chance to happen with mass plantings.

  Over on FB one of the Sansevieria groups a member has posted a plant he is calling S. bonceilensis??
  Anyone ever heard of it, probably another Indo hybrids.
