......Because a leaf cutting in sansevierias does not transfer the genetic=
"codes" necessary for a variegated plant to copy itself. These codes are r=
eserved for the rhizome. If a variegated sansevieria leaf is severed to mak=
e leaf cuttings for propagation purposes, it can only produce two types of =
plants: either all green or all albino depending on WHERE the new plantlet =
originates on the leaf-cut surface. The young albino plant cannot survive i=
f it is detached from the cutting, while the green plantlet will be fine. N=
ature considers variegation an abomination, a weakness, and it tries to wee=
d out weakness.

Hello guys,
I was just thinking if reproduction by seed ensures genetic diversity and v=
ariation in plants, and if cuttings produce an exact clone of the parent pl=
ant, then why do variegated and striated Sansevierias reproduce non-varieg=
ated and non-striated plants when propagated by a leaf cutting?
