Hi everybody:

I was involved with the discusions on the carfree cities list about building a city. I started a database of interested people. I guess it is redundent as all of you that are on the data base are probably now on this list.

I checked out a town in southern Vancouver Island, but I was not happy with it. There are a few islands that could be converted to carfee after we reach a critical mass. Untill then we will have to be satisfied with just moving to more carfree areas. Near where I live, there is a rural community that is near perfect. Low land prices, flat, no snow in the winter, good farm land , great recreation, some employment in nearby towns, some bus service, mountains and ocean within 1/2 hour bike ride, lots of alternative lifstyle folks, one day to Vancouver and back, 3 hour bus to Victoria, one short day to Seattle and we have open arms for American refugees (there are lots of places to sneak in).

Ross
