Colin,

Nice poster -- thanks for efforts in putting it together!. The two primary
photos certainly say it all, with quite a bit of impact.

Thanks also for using the word "transition", which has been on my mind
lately. I've been entertaining the idea of a conference session devoted to
"transition strategies".

I still think, however, that the path of least resistance lies not in
changing the minds of drivers, but in working with the significant number
of people who already want carfree options and just need us to organize and
build them. Then the example begins to speak for itself, changing minds
simply by virtue of its existence and success.... We need to be visible
enough that supporters can find us and persuasive in dealing with Big
Money, planners, elected officials, etc. But we might not really need a
broad-spectrum advertising campaign. These are just ideas; I'm still
thinking about this.

I also am more interested in action than talk. There's been plenty of
talk, and I suspect reasonable consensus on desirable characteristics of
carfree places. The focus of CarFree City USA is to approach real
locations with development or redevelopment potential and see if we can
assemble the resources and political support to build carfree districts.
