Dear Carfree Cities advocates, An impressive international contest is underway, the Cycling Visionaries Awards, a project of this year's Velo-City Global conference conveners. The contest is now closed, but saw a rapid submission of many ideas and projects at the finale, reaching some 216 entries! http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762 <http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2249> Worth taking a look at all the creativity and initiative out there. You can vote for all you want (once each)! Just takes a quick entry of a primary email and then click the link they send (emails won't be used for anything but the verification). Winners receive a free pass to the Velo-City Global conference in Vienna, June 11-14 (about $1050 at the moment!) and recognition and spreading of their ideas. There will be at least 30 winners in five categories: - Advocacy and Social Projects<http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762&category_id=5> - Science, Research and Development<http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762&category_id=1> - Design, Fashion and Cycling Equipment<http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762&category_id=3> - Urban Planning and Urban Design<http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762&category_id=2> - Cycling and the Arts<http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2762&category_id=4> What would you dream of? :) In motion, Jason p.s.Vote for us! Colleagues and I submitted four projects we're working on, including a design and policy manual for campuses; a means of rapidly collecting qualitative data on passing cyclists; a low-cost survey method to obtain modeshare and more; and a fanciful inquiry into the potential for a floating bikeways network in Vienna (hey, and it wouldn't flood!). Your support is welcome. Please vote for all of them if you can, and help send a carfree cities true believer booster to the biggest bicycle planning & policy conference in the world. :) http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2337&project_id=246 http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2337&project_id=258 http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2337&project_id=261 http://velo-city2013.com/?page_id=2337&project_id=268 \_ that last one is Venice, it would be interesting to hear discussion about the compatibility of bikes and Venice as it's such an inspiration for carfree cities ideas. === Jason N.
