Hello all, I wanted to highlight a few things related to the network and offer some due praise: First of all, the Towards Carfree Cities conference, which was recently held in Portland, turned out to be an excellent affair. Thanks to all organisers from Shift and those who made it happen, especially: Elly Blue, Meghan Sinnot, Stephanie Routh, Sara Stout, Andrea Broaddus and many others. The conference featured lots of great speakers, including Gil Penalosa, and its timing perfectly coincided with Pedalpalooza, the annual bicycle extravaganza in Portland. A big feature of that (on the Sunday following the conference) was the Sunday Parkways, based on Ciclovia, the first ever such event in Portland, which turned out to be really successful. As it was great to see some continuity in one of the Turkish organisers from last year come (Eda Beyazit) I do hope some Portlanders will come next year to Brussels, as hopefully many others of you will - start planning your May accordingly. Its good to stay in touch, and thanks to all who organised and participated. A warm welcome to Randy Ghent as the newest member of the Advisory Board. Likewise, welcome to all the newest members of the Steering Committee: Gabrielle Hermann, Jason Meggs and Tanja Eskola. Tanja is now the new Steering Committee Liaison to the International Coordination Centre, and she has also newly joined the office in Prague to work on fundraising and its general coordination. Quite recently, Carbusters Magazine has received a special award from NESsT, for the best business plan, to help develop the online functions of the magazine, congratulations to all involved. You can read about all of these things and more, regarding also the plans and direction of the Network, either in the AGM minutes or the monthly bulletin, both of which were recently posted. (AGM minutes to this list and in the members-only section and the bulletin to the bulletin list and in the archives available through the website). And if youre hoping to find ways to get involved, just pick something, there are many opportunities! From media work to translations to online activism to promoting the network.... Look to the website soon for reports, pictures and presentations of the conference, and be expecting a separate welcome and introduction to the new member organisations. Thanks all, keep up the good work, and enjoy the summer holiday season (if you're in the Northern Hemispere) Justin -- Justin Hyatt Membership Coordinator WORLD CARFREE NETWORK skype: huszbusz www.worldcarfree.net --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "World Carfree Network" group.
