The Amsterdam Cargo-tram project is no more.  This is not because the system
failed, but (from memory) because road freight conspired against it and took
an option on some land that was essential to the cargo-tram system.

Isn't freight consolidation is essential to reducing the impact of freight
transport?  Small, successful schemes already exist in Freiburg and Bristol.
 Rather than large, almost empty vehicles entering the city, they deliver to
a consolidation centre outside of the city (that could be on a railway
line), from where small electric vehicles (perhaps with the help of trams)
can take the goods to stores - or direct to homes.

As for the farmers/small holders and farmers markets...  Do they all need a
large vehicle? Could a form of large vehicle sharing be introduced or could
the produce be collected?
