Workshop:
European dream city: making urban living more sustainable in the future

24-28 September 2010, Helsinki, Finland

Background
Are you interested in sustainable urban living? Willing to promote and  
develop it in international environment? If yes, this workshop is a  
great chance to do it. European cities struggle with very similar  
issues when it comes to ecological, social and cultural sustainability  
of urban living. This workshop is part of the Lifelong Learning  
Programme Grundtvig and organised by Green Cultural and Educational  
Centre (ViSiO). Main purpose of the workshop is to promote local grass  
root level of discussion about sustainable urban living. The broader  
purpose is to raise public awareness concerning happier and more  
sustainable urban life now and in the future.

Description
The working methods highlight discussion and dialogue between the  
participants and the experts of the field. The agenda includes issues  
such as traffic, recycling, accessibility, multiculturalism and  
contemporary forms of urban culture, but more important will be the  
interests of the participants.
During the workshop, the participants will create a collage of  
?European dream city?, which will be presented to wider audience  
through the exhibition. The outcomes of the seminar are also collected  
to the European dream city ?website (www.europeandreamcity.org).
How does Your European dream city look like?

Target group
Selected group is formed by 12 participants from different European  
countries and three participants from Finland, all interested in  
sustainable urban living and city planning. The Finnish participants  
have to pay their accommodation and meals by themselves. Participants  
should have enthusiasm towards sustainability issues in their  
hometowns and they should have urge to develop and share their ideas  
with others.  They should preferably ? though not compulsory ? have  
some experience on working or volunteering with relating issues  
through NGO?s, social movements etc. As questions about accessibility  
are integral part of sustainable urban planning, participants with  
disabilities are warmly welcomed. The participants are expected to do  
some preparatory work before arriving.

Language: The language of the workshop is English.

Application

Deadline of the application is Tuesday 22 June. The participants will  
be informed about the selection within two weeks.

Accommodation and travel expenses
Accommodation, meals and travel expenses are covered by the  
organizers. Accommodation is organised in twin rooms (single room can  
be provided with extra fee). Participants should arrive on 23  
September and leave on 29 September.
