Dear carfree supporter,

As you may have heard, the World Carfree Network's office in Prague closed at
the end of August last year. This was not an easy decision to make following the
huge amount of effort put into stabilising WCN Europe’s financial and staff
situation over the last few years.

The new World Carfree Network

The Global Network will continue to exist in virtual form in the short to medium
term. This means the WCN and Carbusters websites will continue to be updated
with resources, news, blog and feature articles. The World Carfree News monthly
e-bulletin remains free and will be available in a user-friendly version with
graphics and links later in 2011. This year’s Towards Carfree Cities Conference
(TCC X) will be held in Guadalajara from 5–9 September as previously announced.
All of this is possible thanks to the dedication of WCN’s unpaid volunteers.

Carbusters Magazine and WCN Membership

The office closure means we cannot produce a printed Carbusters magazine for the
foreseeable future and we also had to close our Resource Centre. We would like
to apologise for the disappointment this will cause, especially for those who
recently bought or renewed a Carbusters subscription or WCN membership. Any
outstanding subscriptions will be honoured as and when the magazine is
re-launched sometime in the future. In the meantime, we would like to thank you
for your patience and hope you enjoy Carbusters Online, which is being updated
with new blog and feature articles on a regular basis.

This also means we have suspended WCN membership indefinitely, for both
individuals and organisations, pending a restructuring of the Network into
regional hubs better placed to support the carfree movement in your part of the
world. Existing members will continue to enjoy registration discounts at events
such as the TCC X Conference in Guadalajara. We would like to apologise for any
disappointment and thank you for your understanding.

Financial support

Although we have a team of volunteers eager to give us their time for free in
the short term, we continue to rely on donations for further development of the
virtual Network, such as updating online resources and redesigning the WCN
website. If you would like to support us in these difficult times, please click
here for further information.

Thank you once again for your ongoing patience and support.
 Regards,

Simon Field
On behalf of the WCN Europe Management Committee and WCN Global Steering
Committee.
