Good idea Bob.

I'm sure you are on the right track. I try something like this myself
on other topics - but I'm not sure I've got it right yet.

One place I use this approach is to preserve comments about the BBC'c
coverage of climate change on http://tweetstothebeeb.com

I had intended this to have more explanation but found the effort
beyond my means. You can see I made some effort towards the end.

I have several pages along the same lines as your cheat sheet on my
personal 'scratch pages' http://bkuk.com/

The index page shows a failed campaign of mine about carbon tax.

One other page is [1]http://bkuk.com/eu/ I link to this in emails. I
think it gets the point across but is in need of more work on the
design to make it easier on the eyes.

I have one link for your list
[2]http://www.nocars.org.uk/wordpress/?p=3D3

Much of the above is a bit of a mess - but I believe the content is
good. I have been happier with e-mails I send out for my company. Here
is an excerpt of one as an example :

<START>

Dear XXX

Thank you for speaking to me last week. What you had to say was very
interesting.

The Warm Homes Healthy People Fund was new to me although I was aware
of many of the other schemes for addressing fuel poverty. Do see
my [3]Our fuel-poor Queen? blog piece.
Do see our software and data providing effective and efficient
solutions in the following key areas:

=B7[4]Improving social marketing and finding core areas for services

=B7[5]Tackling public health inequalities with demographics

=B7[6]Expenses claims management
</END>

I'm finding this approach works reasonably well as an email but a web
page it would need more heavyweight design skills.

Best wishes

Geoff

Subject: [carfree_network] Looking for Cheat-Sheet help

Hi Everybody.

Thanks for your thoughts on the links between environmentalism and
carism. After some thought and questions I've decided on a course of
action and would like some help.

I'd like to create a cheat-sheet on what is wrong with cars. By
this I mean to generate a list of blanket statements like "cars emit
greenhouse gases," "cars release oil into storm sewers," "cars are
responsible for increased hospital costs." And on and on...

Each blanket statement would be a link. Each link would point to a
page of links detailing information on that statement.

I'd like feedback on the idea itself and also methods of
construction. The purpose of the cheat-sheet would be a starting
point in conversation with environmentalists and climate "experts" who
refuse to reject car culture.

My background has little to do with research; I'm willing but not
practiced at this. I find people pointing me toward books and I see a
problem: a link that points to a book title will go nowhere. Some
people might click a link a look at information but very few will click
a link, see a book title, and get the book. Iam willing to write
authors to get permission to put sections on the web - not sure if
that's a useful direction.

I will assume that my audience is hurried, harried, and possibly
hostile to the thought of looking at their addiction. They need to be
spoon fed and will not go to the information - it must come to them.

Does anyone know if there is a utility that can create a pointer to a
paragraph within a long document? Can anyone give me any web based
car-free links? Can anyone help me in the construction? Does anyone
know of good research tools? Is there a place to store information
that I scan?

   Thanks everybody,

Bob.
