---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Elaine Ingham [email protected] [compost_tea] < [email protected]> Date: Fri, Mar 23, 2018 at 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [compost_tea] Assessment of Bacterial Diversity To: [email protected] Properly made, aerobic compost provides the missing organisms that plants need in order to: 1. cycle nutrients from not-plant available into plant-available forms, 2. retain nutrients in the soil, 3. hold soil particles in place to prevent erosion (sorry, roots can't do this all by themselves), 4. compete with, consume and inhibit disease and pest organisms from attacking roots and foliage, 5. decompose toxic compounds in soil; sequester heavy metals, 6. produce organic matter which when correctly processed by soil life builds soil organic matter, builds soil structure (alleviates compaction), retains water and allows roots to grow as deep as they can. Plus a few more things that are corollaries of these benefits. Elaine R. Ingham President, Soil Foodweb Inc.
