Scything videos - rural agrarian village life - farming in the high
country, ideas for agritourism: Germany, Romania, Croatia
gardening, food, cooking, winter life in the alps, growing, cutting, curing
and storing hay, feeding cows, sheep, pigs and a few cats, homestead life,
making plum brandy, woodworking and extensive use of scythes and handmade
wooden hay rakes. I liked the Croatian video particularly for their ability
to produce nearly everything they needed each year on their own land but
the German ones were very educational with focus on agritourism. In the
Transylvanian hay camp participants contribute to getting the year's hay
harvest in, drink water from a spring and a dug well and eat incredible
home cooked farm food.
The villagers work together sharing their harvest so that everyone has what
they need each year. They cooked food from an amazing variety of
vegetables, fruit, grain and meat, harvested wool from their sheep and grew
flax and hemp to weave into cloth. Their hay and forage fields were
maintained by their cows which made trails that were used by everyone to
get where they needed to go. They use horses extensively and their hand
tools were made by local craftsmen. Pure permaculture. The cow-maintained
fields were amazing.
This is where it all begins. I'd like to say these are the best videos I
have ever seen. It was almost like being there.
