*Official Secrets* [image: image.png] Stars Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes Blurb: One day in 2003, in the lead up to the Iraq War, British intelligence specialist Katharine Gun receives a memo from the NSA with a shocking directive: the United States is enlisting Britain's help in collecting compromising information on U.N. Security Council members to blackmail them into voting in favor of an invasion of Iraq. Unable to stand by and watch the world be rushed into war, Gun makes the gut-wrenching decision to defy her government and leak the memo to the press. This is not only an excellent dramatization of the events leading up to the Iraq war. It also offers terrific insight into the limitless power enjoyed by governments and spy agencies when they're determined to pursue a particular goal. In the end, it demonstrates the fact that the rule of law is little more than a convenient myth in societies dominated by antisocial institutions. I don't know where it's available. We saw it via our local internet TV company. Like so many many films that indict political establshments for their behaviour, it seems to have been given little by way of promotion. But it's definitely worth looking for. -- --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Sid-l" group.
