There is simply no friggin excuse, although it's surreal to see the 
government acknowledging it at all; it shows you how totally insane 
we've gone in the last year. That and our willingness to let other 
countries do our torturing for us.

And despite what we're told, these are not "a nuclear bomb will go off 
in 10 minutes unless you can torture the secret password out of the evil 
villain" thought-experiments; this is slow, institutionalized.
