totally off-topic but can anyone......?

Sorry to hassle everyone, but is there a techie
type who could help me out ??? When i go
start/shutdown/restart in MS Dos   nothing
happens. Well, it comes up with the first few
lines of text (y'know, this is ms dos type stuff)
then the little cursor just sits there blinking
at me....as if to mock my techie ignorance! I
don't know what to do. I tried ctrl+alt+del but
all it does is "reload" the same information. I
tried to start in windows but that didn't work
either. help!!!
