This event comes in the sequence of interventions of the PSP (Public
Security Police) and of the PJ (Judiciary Police): organized destruction of
several hundreds of posters, placed in downtown Lisbon by members of the
Solidarity Mumia Abu-Jamal collective, at October 7th; at October 11th, two
agents of the PJ went to a graphical company, to find out if a fanzine of
the Abu-Jamal collective had been printed there and by who. They threatened
to return "with a search warrant".

In the newspaper Diário de Notícias of October 31st, the PSP, referring to
the aprehension, confirmed its acts: the posters "were offensive to a
foreign head of state" (Bush), and the activists "had no authorization from
the city authorities" to place the posters... Therefore PSP confirmed its
illegal action on a public, widely read, newspaper.

This kind of action by the judicial authorities is really not common in
Portugal, given the social and political context of the last decades...
This event ocurred really because the police is surely receiving information
from the FBI and EUROPOL, as to who it should investigate.
By the way, I think the posters were ones that have a photo of president
Bush, with "terrorist" written on top, and "wanted" written on the bottom.
