Would you say the same thing about 'spic' or 'jap' or 'heb'? Actually, even though you might, the point is that just like these, 'paki' is clearly a racist slur. Here's a case: a customer growls at a stockboy in a crowded grocery mart, "move out of my way, you dirty Paki". Is it a racist slur then? What about this case: A group of thugs yell "go home you dirty paki!" at a defenseless immigrant as they beat her senseless. Is it a racist slur then? "Paki-bashing" isn't just a matter of impoliteness but names a pattern of racial violence in Britain and elsewhere. Regardless of my agenda or my grip, "Paki" is a racial slur, and Bush's use of it, and failure to apologize, are unacceptable. Kendall Clark
