BHM Reading List

Folks,

Some of us MFers are working on a big reading list for Black History
Month. Because of our particular interests the list is already chock
full of stuff about slavery, reconstruction, Jim Crow, antiracism,
oppression, and the like.

I'm hoping that others on this list can help us round out the list --
which we'll publish on MF before the end of the month -- by suggesting
some of their favorite texts by or about African Americans, black
history, etc.

I think that while BHM is a good thing, the temptation we must avoid
is to use it to compartmentalize African Americans, their experiences
and contributions, their history. That's why I'd like us to spend BHM
putting a reading list together for *the rest of the year* or, better,
for the rest of one's life.
