Recent "word of the week" selections at a local elementary school raises questions about the qualifications of those who teach, and those who lead them.



Dilligent Educators Show Resilence, Creativity & Flexibility

   I live less than half a mile from the [1]local elementary school.
   Indeed, I pass it by no less than twice on any day when I leave the
   house -- roughly the same number of times that each and every
   teacher and bus driver employed at this school, and parent that
   drives their child to and from the school, does. Therefore, it is
   unlikely that I would be able to see anything that they don't see.
   And yet, for each of at least the last three weeks, there has been
   minor but nonetheless important error in the school's "word of the
   week" sign, proudly displayed at the entrance to the school.
   
   During the week of January 8, the word of the week was resilence. I
   was curious how they would bounce back from this one.
   
   During the week of Janury 15, the word of the week was creativity &
   flexibility. This single word certainly shows ample amounts of both
   characteristics.
   
   During the week of January 22, the word of the week was dilligence.
   Clearly they are lacking in this particular characteristic.
   
   The recent months have shown a huge amount of interest in education
   in the state of Georgia. Governor [2]Roy Barnes and School
   Superintendent [3]Linda Schrenko -- as well as parents' and
   teachers' groups -- have been at odds over many aspects of the
   Governor's [4]education reform plan. And now we see the [5]President
   -- a man whose own illiteracy, if anecdotal, is infamous -- pushing
   his own education agenda.
   
   To coin a phrase, ipsos docere doctori?
