I think we'd be wise to be *very* skeptical of Bush on this point; and that,
in addition to general skepticism of political leaders and of Bush
specifically.

US presidents all the way back to LBJ have said, in some form or another,
that they support a Palestinian state; most, however, seem to have meant at
the post-67 borders, where they didn't mean simply to endorse Israel's
bantustanization of the occupied territories.

In *this* context, I think it's as much about pressuring Sharon -- by
sending signals to those slightly to the right of the old vampire -- as it
is about any sort of substantive agreements.
