--- [email protected] --- From: Mazin Qumsiyeh <[email protected]> Subject: Land Confiscation, links and resources to use 1) From the Municipality of Beit Sahour on the continuing land confiscationsby Israeli occupation authorities. 2) More links to resources to use and keep, a list of over 50 web pagesdealing with advocacy for human rights No where else is such ethnic cleanbsing allowed to proceed unchecked. We must act more to stop it. The links provide you many venues for action. Sincerely, Mazin Qumsiyeh, PhD http://al-awda.org http://www.BoycottIsraeliGoods.org ==================== May 15, 2002 Dear friends and supporters, Beit Sahour, along with the district of Bethlehem, is beginning to rebuild following the latest Israeli aggression against us Palestinians. I cannottell you how important all your messages of support have been to us, it hashelped us keep strong knowing that there are people in the world who understandwhat is happening to us. Along with problems the invasion has caused us we are also facing yetmore confiscation of land, in area C, belonging to residents of Beit Sahour. We are not unique in this, land across the area is being taken illegally byIsrael. They state in their communications with us it is for "security" purposes. Each day more and more of Palestine is being absorbed in to Israeli control. We have been making strenuous efforts to fight this. A lawyer from Jerusalemis representing us and has already filed objections in court, however these objections have been overruled and the confiscation continues. It isso hard for us as it is almost impossible for any representative to go to Jerusalem, and as an Israeli, our lawyer cannot come here. There was already work underway, taking land north of Beit Sahour, butthey are now deviating from the plan and going in to land near homes and awayfrom the route specified. The local Palestinian road serving the homes has beenblocked, and the work is continuing. They commenced this latest construction whilstwe were occupied and were powerless to act. Despite this, a friend of oursmanaged to get to Jerusalem to pass on documents. We still need to do more though. Many of you have asked how you can help, what can you do to assist us in this fight. We do need help as we are almost powerless against the occupier of our land. Firstly and foremost, anyonewho is in the area can help by coming with us to the area in question. All areasked to meet us at Jabal Al Deek (opposite Jabal Abu Ghnaim) at 3:00p.m on Saturday18 May, 2002. We urgently need to survey the work that has been done andcompile a report for the lawyer to assist him in the case. We cannot go there alone;tanks and soldiers protect the bulldozer and we fear for our safety. All Palestinians are targets. In addition, we need you to protest strongly to all authorities. Writeto your MPís, your congressmen, your senators, the United Nations, human rights organizations. Speak to the press and tell them how Israel wants onlyour land, and how they go about taking it. Sharon claims he wants to achieve peacewith us but he is insincere. As long as our land is being taken from us we mustfight. Posters adorn Jerusalem stating "get the Arab enemy out." They want todrive us from our homes, not make peace. We have lived under occupation and oppression for over 30 years now.We saw much of our land taken and hundreds of thousands of people become refugeesover 50 years ago. Today we fare no better. We are still oppressed, we are still discriminated against and we are still watching our homes destroyed, our people killed and our land taken. It is time for the governments around theworld to stand up for decency, humanity and justice to challenge Israel. You canhelp, you can exert pressure in your own countries and demand that Israel be accountable for her actions.
