Black conservatives oppose reparations

One of the right-wingers -- one of six or seven, these days -- who's
trying to educate me via email sent the enclosed column to me.

I find the arguments specious, often laughably so. I'm looking forward
to Bijan's review of Randall Robinson's book about reparations, *The
Debt*,[1] which I haven't found time to buy or read. (It is
interesting to note that those who oppose reparations never discuss
Jim Crow.)

What I find interesting is the ideological service some black
conservatives are willing to pay to white supremacy. I think there may
be an authentic (that is, non-toadying) conservative position for
black Americans, but it would have to be very nuanced, and I'm not
sure I know of any black conservative who comes close. (Note: I'm not
talking here so much about individual black politicians as I am the
intellectual articulation of a consistent and comprehensive
conservative position from the black perspective.) I suppose Shelby
Steele, whatever the limitations of his work, probably comes the
closest, which isn't to say he comes *close*, and I'm just guessing.

This ideological service they do is similar to that done by Phyllis
Schafly and other conservative women; about which several feminists
have written, including Dworkin and (maybe) Sandra Bartky. I need to
read the Dworkin stuff.
