Hiya ... I am married to a Pakistani, and he does occasionally use the derivative "paki" at times, but not to describe a person, but rather, say, food. But in England, I was told (actually, I was upbraided) that it has a derogatory connotation, like calling someone a "wog" which has little meaning in the U.S. but is a slur across the pond. Many Pakistanis living in U.S., Canada and elsewhere do consider it extremely derogatory. So it's safer to not cut corners and to use "Pakistani." Angelina
