that's funny, because if you look at the statistics on various social indicators such as infant mortality, etc., Iraq was doing much better than any other country in the region up until, well, 12 years ago.  

you yourself threw out this time period, yet your feeble mind doesnt make the connections and realize that it's the actions of the u.s. that are largely responsible for the suffering of the Iraqi people.  

Let's get one thing straight here (because for some reason those on the left have to always include this little disclaimer, which is ridiculous because for one thing it should be obvious; for another thing it was the reaganites who armed and supported hussein; and lastly because those on the right are allowed to always come out swinging without having to temper their words): i oppose the Hussein (why is he the only world leader referred to by his first name?) regime and his manipulation of the once-proud ba'ath party from a liberatory pan-arab socialism to a stalin/hitler-like cult of personality authoritarianism.  shit, as an anarcho-syndicalist, hussein would probably hang me.  

yet, one has to face facts.  WHO supported hussein in the 80's?  WHO sold arms to both sides in the Iran-Iraq war, while publicly denying it?  

and we have to face the facts about the past 12 years, in which the U.S. has wrought more destruction, death, and suffering on the innocent civilians of Iraq than Hussein could have ever done, even if he wanted to.  

200,00 killed in desert storm.  

water purification plants, sewage treatment, communication, and other civilian infrastructure completely destroyed, leading to widespread disease.  

illegal "no-fly zones" in which the u.s. and britain weekly bombard and kill innocent civilians in the north and south. 

upwards of one million people, many children, killed by u.s. sanctions that deny basic medicines, vaccines, and other badly needed everyday items.  

large-scale use of depleted uranium armament and munitions which now poisons the land and water of Iraq and which remains radioactive for more than 4 billion years (not to mention the toll on american g.i.'s). skyrocketing infant mortality, birth defects, and cancer in children.

war crimes and crimes against humanity that bush, clinton, bush II, powell, stormin' norman, albright, and the rest of them should be convicted and hung for.  a cabal of extreme right-wing ideologues, convicted felons and war criminals urging the Bush regime to attack Iraq, and establish world empire from there.  and dont take it from me- you can check out the rand corporation or the project for a new american century or the national security strategy and see that they admit it themselves.  just dont expect this to be discussed on your local evening news.

and this is who you are supporting to "free" the Iraqi people (not to mention to bring safety and security to the world)?

hussein, like hitler, is a product of u.s. foreign policy and american corporate fascism.  like there is a lot of mythology about the so-called "good war," there is also a lot of "mythology," to put it lightly, about the reasons for this new genocidal slaughter on Iraq.

Pentagon officials themselves have admitted that in the first 48 hours of the war there will be so much bombardment on Baghdad that "there will be no safe place" in the entire city.  Do you understand that Baghdad is a city the size of Paris or Los Angeles full of innocent people?  where is your concern for Iraqi people's suffering when it comes to the actions of your own government which in theory you at least have the chance to influence?

wake up, asshole.  the vast majority of the people on this planet are opposed to this war and u.s. imperialism, and you will reap the consequences.  those countries going along are doing it through fear and/or bribery, even though the majority of their populations are opposed to the war.  so much for "democracy."

I will not allow the country responsible for pinochet, the shah, suharto, savimbi, the contras, hiroshima, nagasaki, and so on and so forth, to fool me into thinking it is motivated by "democracy", "human rights" and "liberation."
