Sheikh Yassin: We Reject Two-State Solution Dec 08, 2003 *Gaza *- Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, founder and spiritual leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has renewed rejection of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Zionist conflict. The Sheikh in an interview with the German magazine 'Der Spiegel' to be published today said that he opposed the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside a Zionist state. He opined that such a solution would not succeed because Zionists demand 80% of the land leaving only 20% for the Palestinians (the indigenous people). It would be only a temporary solution, he elaborated. The Hamas leader also declared rejection of the "Switzerland document", charging that it was worse than the Oslo agreements because it gave up the refugees' right of return. Hamas believes (and targets) that all Palestinians should live in their homeland along with followers of Islam, Christianity and Judaism, Sheikh Yassin said, adding, "We are against a Jewish state that exercises apartheid on the Palestinian lands". Asked whether there was any place at all for establishment of such a Jewish state, he said, "They can set up a state in Europe".
