Friends: I don't intend to publicly wallow in this Lupus situation -- but we have been learning more interesting things about the latest crisis attack which came and peaked on December 3 and early December 4. I got out the hospital this time yesterday -- December 9. Ours is the most virulently systemic form of Lupus: swift and very hard and hungry voracious attacks. The Lupus we're fighting goes after other body organs with a bloody passion, Once again on December 3, I lay there in the mountain hospital: totally unable to move, delirious, hallucinating, vacant-eyed, Totally dehydrated. The intake doctor -- not part of our regular team which was coming fast -- said to Eldri and that portion of the family that had, thus far, gotten there, "I think I must tell you people that not everyone by any means who reaches this condition ever makes it" He hesitated, then asked: "If he starts to slip away, what shall I try to do?" Eldri is the most gentle soul in the Universe. But now family folk saw her semi Mongol Lapp [Saami] eyes glint -- hard, sharp, flintily. "Bring him back," she ordered. Family members were there from 3 pm for many hours. And the crisis very slowly began to pass in ICU. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This was the third time in three months that Lupus has struck me swiftly and lethally out of the blue -- almost doing me in once again. It could strike again. anytime -- or never. We simply do not know. What I do know is that it's critical to keep fighting -- and to always remember that if one lives with grace he/she should be prepared to die with grace. How much time do I have? Maybe lots, maybe not much. I and others are now working on our Pocatello Area Anti-Racist Conference once again. I'm writing on Indian rights and militant, democratic unionism. But I'd like, too, within the now somewhat narrowed borders of my canyon-of-life, to help others do some good things as well. Let me know. In the mountains of southeastern Idaho. They do this especially when the bright night moon shines down on the clean white snow that covers the valley and its surroundings. Then it is as bright as day -- but in an always soft and mysterious and remembering way.
