if you wanted some quotations for the piece it might be worth including
engel's criticism of british socialists who wanted to turn marxist theory
into a "rigid orthodixy, which the workers are not to reach as a result of
class consciousness, but which, like an article of faith, is to be forced
down their throats at once and without development." (karl marx and
frederick engels, selected correspondence)

another good quote from Lenin himself:

"Russia, achieved Marxism -- the only correct revolutionary theory -- 
through the agony she experienced in the course of half a century of
unparalleled torment and sacrifice, of unparalleled revolutionary heroism,
incredible energy, devoted searching, study, practical trial,
disappointment, verification, and comparison with European experience."
(V.I. Lenin, Collected Works)

between the two quotes i think it is easy enough to demonstrate that anyone
who stays actually true to Marx, Engels and Lenin understands that marxism
is a living, breathing science that cannot be learnt by rote and must be
developed through active study, analysis and practical application.
