31 AUGUST - MILOSEVIC CASE: TRUTH AND FREEDOM AGAINST LIES AND SLAVERY

After the trials of Dimitrov and Mandela who heroically defeated the Nazi
and Apartheid political judiciary, the trial which best represents the
global struggle against international oppression in our own time is
certainly the one of Slobodan Milosevic.

On Tuesday, 31 August 2004 at 9 A.M. (CET) Slobodan Milosevic will have a
chance to make a four hour opening speech at the beginning of what is
usually called his defense, and what he himself and all progressive peopl=
e
of Serbia call the battle for truth. His opening speech will not be follo=
wed
by the presentation of his evidence as would be customary in most courtro=
oms
and as most would expect. Instead, it will be followed by a debate on
whether the court should impose counsel on him, and on whether a once
unified proceeding should be broken up into three separate parts.
Essentially, the court will seek ways in which to silence the voice of
Slobodan Milosevic. The aim is to prevent "the accused" to present eviden=
ce
on who and why destroyed Yugoslavia, how terrorist safe-havens were creat=
ed
in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo, who persecuted the Serbian people and bomb=
ed
Serbia, who and why occupies large parts of the Balkans and imposes miser=
y
and colonial rule to the Balkans nations.

The most cynical aspect of this is the way the Hague non-court tries to
impose counsel on Slobodan Milosevic against his will while claiming to b=
e
worried for his health! After damaging his health and endangering his ver=
y
life by kidnapping him, keeping him in prison for more than three years
without allowing his illness to be treated properly, cutting him from
contacts with his family, and exhausting him with an endless series of fa=
ke
witnesses and millions of pages of irrelevant disclosure - this is an
obscene deception.

President Slobodan Milosevic is fighting for the people. He is supported =
by
the people of Serbia and by progressive people around the world. He is on
the very front lines of the struggle against injustice and aggression in =
the
Balkans and around the world.

The Mr. and Ms. Frankensteins (you remember their real names: Albright,
David Scheffer, Michael Scharf.) who devised the Hague court, are now ver=
y
concerned with the viability of their ghoulish creation whose teeth were
broken by a great and honest man. They are trying to tell the public and =
the
ICTY judges that only Frankensteins such as themselves have the right to
make the rules, and that the principal rule above all is that whomever th=
ey
have pointed to as a criminal must be convicted (or eliminated), with or
without evidence against him.

This unprecedented campaign of judicial manipulation coincides with a
similarly unprecedented and outrageous campaign by NATO lackeys in Belgra=
de
to withdraw the indictment against the NATO countries which now sits befo=
re
the International Court of Justice. Since the foundation of this one and
only true UN court there has never been so such pressure on the accusing
side as in this case of Yugoslavia vs. NATO. In spite of NATO's enormous
power, still the vast majority of the Serbian Parliament has been against
the withdrawal. Why are all of these campaigns and pressures so intense?
Because the real criminals are fully aware of their crimes!

The only legitimate holder of sovereign power including judicial power is
the people. And the people will not allow these crimes to prevail. Nor wi=
ll
the people forgive the criminals.

The Sloboda/Freedom Association from Belgrade and the International
Committee to Defend Slobodan Milosevic (ICDSM), from Sofia to New York to
Moscow, together call upon all honest people to act now to prevent any
further criminal manipulations at The Hague. We invite all supporters of
this struggle and of all other progressive struggles to listen to Sloboda=
n
Milosevic's opening statement on 31 August and to express their solidarit=
y
either by coming to The Hague or by addressing the public in their own
countries.

The ICDSM has sent representatives to The Hague who will address the medi=
a
in a press conference on Wednesday, 1 September 2004 after the end of tha=
t
day's tribunal proceedings. Speaking on behalf of ICDSM will be
Vice-Chairman and Board Chairperson Klaus Hartmann from Germany and ICDSM
Legal Spokesperson Tiphaine Dickson from Quebec.

This year the Russian Duma, the Parliament of Belarus, and the Parliament=
ary
Assembly of the Union of Russia and Belarus all addressed separate letter=
s
to the Parliaments of NATO and the EU countries, as well as to various
international organizations and the judges of the Hague tribunal demands
calling for the release of Slobodan Milosevic.

The same demand was expressed by the World Peace Council, European Peace
Forum and by many other progressive organizations and political parties.

On Vidovdan, 28 June 2004, which was also the third anniversary of the
abduction of President Milosevic, thousands marched in the streets of
Belgrade with the same demand.

Some forty renowned international artists and writers signed a petition
uniting their voices in support of the International Committee to Defend
Slobodan Milosevic.

Over ninety distinguished lawyers and law professors from seventeen
countries, most of them non-members of ICDSM and some of them even politi=
cal
opponents of Slobodan Milosevic, addressed the UN Security Council and ot=
her
UN organs with a petition entitled IMPOSITION OF COUNSEL ON SLOBODAN
MILOSEVIC THREATENS THE FUTURE OF INTERNATIONAL LAW AND THE LIFE OF THE
DEFENDANT. This appeal, which expressed the true principles of legal
justice, was motivated by a sense of complete outrage and shame in the fa=
ce
of the daily violation of legal ethics at The Hague. On behalf of the
appeal, former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark and international crimina=
l
lawyer Tiphaine Dickson spoke to the press last week in the UN headquarte=
rs
in New York.

Slobodan Milosevic stands for all of us. Let us also stand together with
