This is an appeal from Catholic Charities, Jackson, Mississippi. It's being forwarded about by Ms Jan Hillegas, a human rights activist in the state. She happens to be an old friend who I've known since 1963. [H]

The Mississippi Supreme Court has scheduled the execution of Mr. Curtis Jackson for Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 6:00 PM. Attached you will find a letter from Cliff Johnson who has been representing the family of the victims in the Jackson case, as well as individual letters from parents of the victims addressed to Governor Bryant. It is the wishes of the family members that the Governor commute Mr. Jackson's sentence from death to life without possibility of parole. This is an important step as the family of the victims is also the family of Mr. Jackson.

Over time the family has expressed deep forgiveness toward Mr. Jackson for his actions, and Mr. Jackson himself has shown a great deal of remorse. Given the forgiveness shown by the family and remorse of Mr. Jackson, the family has expressed the desire for his life to be spared. Proceeding with execution at this critical point will only place more pain and loss in the lives of the victims' family.

We ask that you prayerfully read through these letters and commit to contacting Governor Bryant asking Mr. Jackson's sentence be commuted from death to life without parole.

Attached you will find a form letter to Governor Bryant. Please feel free to use this letter to mail or email in to the Governor's office. We also ask that you take the time to forward this message to your networks, friends, family, and fellow congregants.

Governor Bryant can be contacted using the following means:
