I came across a full version of "Salt of the Earth" on YouTube:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxuNdwGhSh

The description says it's "public domain" so I assume there are no copyright issues with passing the word around.

The version on YouTube has captions for the hearing-impaired (which includes me thanks to an episode many years ago of shooting clay pigeons with my late father-in-law's semi-automatic Benelli shotgun, while drinking brandy with the old guy, but I digress...).

SALT OF THE EARTH was a very fine movie. I have a sentimental fondness
for it, because an old friend of mine, Lew Johnson, was one of the
extras. Fortunately, it is now readily available, via Netflix.
STRUMPET CITY, a RTE miniseries based on the James Plunkett novel, is
by far the finest trade union drama I've seen. It also is now easily
available in the States, via Netflix and other DVD outlets.---KH
