This long and somewhat older law article by Don Kates gives much info on the historical development of the 2nd. It doesn't cover the 2008 and 2010 USSC decisions that have definitively clarified the 2nd as a full member of the Bill of Rights. I met Kates when he was a law student doing civil rights work in the Deep South during the summer of 1964. We've published gun rights stuff together in a couple of books -- been at and spoken at a couple of gun issues conferences. http://www.firearmsandliberty.com/kates.self.protection.html H.
