René González' father has died!

Cándido René González, the father of one of the Five Cuban antiterrorists condemned to long sentences in the U.S., died 
today in Havana at age 82. The national television news reported that 
Gonzalez expired due to a stroke, after a severe and protracted illness.


His body was cremated on Monday morning and 
the ashes will be deposited in  a mausoleum  at Havana's Colón Cemetery 
during a private family ceremony.


The note states that Cándido González 
emigrated to America in 1950 and joined the July 26 Movement in Chicago 
and was a member of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.


He returned home in 1961, when he joined the 
National Revolutionary Militia and mobilized and in antiaircraft 
artillery units during the October Crisis.


He was also a cane cutter for 10   harvest seasons and a trade union leader.


His son, René González, is forced to remain in the United States under the parole system, despite having finished his 
sentence  for preventing terrorist attacks on his country in 2011.


Other prosecuted for a similar reason were 
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando 
Gonzalez, whose release have been demanded by millions of people 
worldwide.
