My letter of support for Heidi and gun rights (Grand Forks Herald)

Bloomberg, the Little Napoleonic figure from New York City, has been floating expensive gun control commercials -- and his and other gun control groupies have been writing hostile letters -- and all of these into states where they feel the gun rights minds of some Senators might be changed.  This is whistling Dixie in Bangor -- or in Bismarck.  I doubt that anything changes the decisive pro-gun rights tally of a couple of weeks ago.  I have a myriad of former students (and other good friends) all over the state of North Dakota. And Eldri has a great many friends in the state as well. We have always supported Heidi who comes out of the Non-Partisan League and Farmer Labor traditions of North Dakota. (H)

POCATELLO, Idaho - Both my wife, Eldri, and I have frontier roots in North Dakota - and, in my case, they go as far back into the territorial period as 1870. 

We lived in the state for 16 years, during most of which I taught American Indian Studies at UND. I have been a gun owner and hunter since I was 7 years old.

North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp's commendable support for the civil rights and civil liberties of firearms owners and the U.S. Constitution, definitely not surprising by any stretch, certainly reflects the strong convictions of a great majority of North Dakotans and a great majority of Americans generally.

We are most grateful.
