Strategic thoughts on effectively countering government and corporate spying

(A good and astute friend has asked what are my specific suggestions in countering high tech spying by the Federal government and private corporations.  Here are my thoughts:

Publicizing all facets of the spying; non-violent and well focused direct action; creative litigation -- including, among other things, damage suits; appropriate political action and pressure on Congress especially for corrective legislation.  These are obvious.  

Economic boycotts on corporate businesses could well be effective.

It's also necessary to return the Freedom of Information and Privacy acts to their original scope and purpose. At this point, the retrieval processes are badly clouded and often blocked, especially for the average person.

All of these require sound organizing approaches, likely several related endeavors on a concurrent basis.

And while it's appropriate to move quickly, it's also necessary to recognize that some dimensions of this struggle will take some time.

I add this:  It's logical to see these spying abuses as stemming from capitalism.  On the other hand, as we know, bureaucratic structures under any systemic arrangement can very easily slip into the spying syndrome.
